David was a beloved member of AOPR and the Point Richmond community. He passed on in 2023. We miss him. His art lives on ... in this gallery and elsewhere.
He loved drawing since he was a kid growing up on an 80 acre corn and soybean farm in Southern Illinois.
He moved to San Francisco when he got out of the army and he decided to go to art school when I heard the saying that “if you can draw the human figure, you can draw anything.” He signed up for life drawing classes at the SF Academy of Art and loved doing them and kept drawing all kinds of things.
He did book illustrations, greeting cards and political cartoons, and in 1974 was one of the founding members of the Art Squad; first in San Francisco and later in Point Richmond. The Art Squad met weekly to draw collaboratively, literally drawing on each other’s art.
