Kaci Smith was born and raised in central New Jersey, but has been a resident of Richmond since 2008. She holds a BFA in Textile Design from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, and has worked professionally as a hand-weaver of rugs and upholstery fabrics. Although currently making two-dimensional mixed media artwork, Kaci's life-long passion for pattern, color and fabric is the endless well of inspiration in her work.
Â
In 2021, Kaci completed the Creative Visionary Program (CVP), a master class in abstract painting from an incredible stable of artists including Nicholas Wilton and Terri Froelich.
She has been a featured artist on the Instagram account Carve Out Time for Art and was a collaborator to the book Collage Your Life by Melanie Mowinski.
Â
When not making art, Kaci can often be found covered in dirt with a shovel in her hands planting trees with the non-profit urban forestry organization, Richmond Trees, which she co-founded in 2011. She lives with her husband Chris and their two rescued siamese cats (Beckett and Beany) in the North & East Neighborhood.
