The AOPR Fiber Arts group recently hosted a workshop in the garden of Point Richmond Gallery. Becca Riley and Debi Cooper donated their time and expertise, providing an array of equipment, materials and guidance.
Fiber arts enthusiasts practiced several different techniques, including using a steamer to set natural dye paste designs and harnessing sunlight to create relief images on cyanotype fabric.
Participants also learned how to ensure that whole leaf indigo dye was absorbed into silk and wool fabric by blending indigo with ice in a common kitchen appliance: a blender. (Needless to say, the same blender will no longer be used to whip up breakfast smoothies!)
Everyone enjoyed a friendly afternoon of collective creativity in a pleasant—and practical—outdoor setting. If you are interested in future such events, please email Isobel at studioIsobel@gmail.com.Â
