Jim Bruce

I’m an artist and educator based in Richmond, California. I work in clay and oil paint, sculpting figures and portraits and painting landscapes that feel both familiar and personal.

Since 2025, I’ve focused on portrait sculpture, and I share that enthusiasm through my classes at West Contra Costa Adult Education and the Richmond Art Center.

My teaching comes from a simple belief: everyone has an artist inside, but many of us need encouragement to see it. I also believe art helps give our lives meaning.

When I paint landscapes, I look for places that feel like home in some way—familiar but still moving. Painting becomes a way to explore color and feeling, translating those moments into something lasting.
